珠算运算，首先遇到的是看数。看数快与准直接影响到以后计算的速度和准确率。看数一般从位数较少的开始，秩序渐进。最好一开始就养成一眼一笔数的好习惯，如果不能这样，那么也可以分节看数，看数时万、千、百、个等位数和元、角、分等单位可不记，如487683.25可一次看完记住，也可以分为 487-683.25，还可以分为487-683-52看，分节次数越少越有利于运算速度的提高。看数的同时，右手立即拨珠，快要拨完一节，随即看下一节数，要上下环节连接起来，做到边看边打，否则中间就会出现拨珠停顿，从而影响计算速度。数的位数与盘面上计位点应对照起来，位数才能准确无误。熟练以后要做到眼睛能兼顾到计算资料和算盘，使计算动作环环相扣。如已具有一定计算水平，可以根据自身情况在简单看数的基础上练习并行看数，做到眼到数出，随即拨入算盘中。看数是珠算计算最关键的第一步，无论是初学者，还是有一定技术水平的选手都必须重视，只有看数水平提高了，才能提高计算水平。
